Amy MacIntosh

Amy (MSc) is a zoologist and environmental scientist currently pursuing a PhD degree in environmental toxicology in conjunction with Macquarie University and ANSTO. She engages with showcasing a critical understanding of key environmental drivers and vulnerable wildlife of metal and radioactive exposure and uptake. Her research is revolved around conducting ecological risk assessments on contaminated land, primarily mining sites and offshore petroleum ecosystems. She incorporates the fields of chemistry, toxicology, law/regulation and wildlife ecology to answer growing issues regarding the causes and toxicological effects of anthropogenic-sourced pollution on animals. Her current research is focused on the assessment of the ecotoxicological and radiological effects on marine organisms to determine the impacts to Australian marine animals from scale from deep sea oil and gas structures Her study will be the first to assess the toxic responses of Australian marine fauna to short- and long-term exposure from marine pipeline scale. Through collaborations with multi-national stakeholders, she will develop an Australian-specific risk assessment framework with the potential to be applied by other international nations.
